A giant Hybridus with a palm-tree head, this child warmly invites visitors to explore his open- air bedroom, still captivated by his colossal, scattered toys.
Everything in his room is at least six times larger than ours and reflects the perception of space from the tiny size of a toy. Our height becomes that of a doll, whose house is installed on the floor at the foot of an enormous, welcoming bed.
It is a startling life-size reproduction of the artist’s parents’ first apartment in Ménilmontant. “Clean your room!” his father would often command—three words with strong and lasting echoes, which he has chosen to revisit through this playful, offbeat self-portrait as installation.
Range ta chambre et l’enfant géant
À l’heure de la visite, il sera probablement là, en pyjama et en chaussons. Hybridus géant à tête de palmier, l’enfant laisse volontiers visiter sa chambre à ciel ouvert animée de ses jeux de colosse encore éparpillés.
Tout dans sa chambre est au moins six fois plus grand que dans la nôtre et traduit la perception de l’espace depuis la minime taille d’un jouet. Notre hauteur devient celle d’une poupée dont la maison est installée au sol, au pied de l’énorme lit généreusement accueillant. Elle est la reproduction surprenante à l’échelle une du premier appartement des parents de l’artiste, à Ménilmontant.
« Range ta chambre ! », lui ordonnait souvent son père. Trois mots aux résonances fortes et persistantes, qu’il a souhaité aborder dans une mise en scène autoportraitique joueuse et décalée.
