The Giant’s House is the home of Maxitos, an imposing hybrid character who remained
unseen for many years but is now regularly spotted in the vegetable garden. His enormous,
rustic furniture sits alongside the slow rhythm of the clock, likely awaiting the giant’s
imminent return. Two intriguing labyrinthine paths cause curious visitors who venture toward
the house to lose their bearings.
Built at double scale, Jean-François Fourtou drew inspiration from the home where his
paternal great-grandmother lived in Saint-Émilion to depict the perception of time and space
in early childhood.
He then created the Giant’s House at three-quarters scale and at one-fifth scale, further
illustrating his concept through a photographic series taken at all three scales.
