At Ramakech, it is not uncommon to encounter various animal figures dotting the visitor’s
path. Some specimens were born there, while others migrated to the site. Monumental in
scale, they appear either alone or in groups, coexisting in their incongruous and playful
invasion of the surrounding spaces.
To convey his emotions, Jean-François Fourtou used the lens of animal metaphor across
several series of works. His approach does not advocate for specific causes or morals. Dogs,
snails, horses, ants, turtles, butterflies—with humor and sensitivity, these portraits and self-
portraits bear witness to the stages of his personal journey toward serenity and liberation.
