The Giant's House at Ramakech, Marrakech
The Giant’s House, a flagship installation at the Ramakech sculpture park in Marrakech, is home to Maxitos , an imposing hybrid character who stayed hidden for years, but can now regularly be spotted in the vegetable garden.
His huge, plain, rustic furniture keeps company with the slow tick of a clock, as if waiting for the giant’s imminent return. Two puzzling, maze-like paths lead , and mislead , any curious visitor venturing toward the house.
Built at double scale, Jean-François Fourtou drew inspiration from the home of his paternal great-grandmother in Saint-Émilion, using it to picture how time and space are perceived in early childhood. He later produced the Giant’s House at three-quarter scale, and again at one-fifth scale, illustrating his idea through a photographic series across all three scales.
