The Horse, a Giant Animal Sculpture in Marrakech

Around a bend in the Marrakech Palm Grove, this yellow horse appears amid the greenery. Its oversized scale surprises every visitor to Ramakech who crosses its path.

It isn’t the only animal figure along the way: at Ramakech, several such sculptures punctuate the trail, some born here, others arrived over time. Alone or in groups, they inhabit the park’s spaces in an odd, playful takeover.

As with many of his works, Jean-François Fourtou chose this horse to explore, with humour and sensitivity, a moment from his own journey , never to argue a cause, never to moralise. The artist uses the animal as a quiet mirror for his emotions.

In Marrakech, this Horse belongs to a wider family of animal sculptures roaming the Ramakech park. It speaks to the other works along the trail, notably the Giant Anthill and Papillons Traversée, forming a coherent world where the animal becomes the artist’s mirror.
