Hybridus, Route de Fès , Ramakech's Hybrid Characters

The Hybridus, Route de Fès are human-shaped characters with heads made of vegetables, plants or marine forms. They belong to the wider Hybridus family that populates Jean-François Fourtou’s world at Ramakech.

Originating from the fantastical tales the artist once told his children, they form a family that keeps growing with new cousins. These stories emerge unpredictably, drawn from Fourtou’s memories and everyday life. The Hybridus, Route de Fès were born from the morning bustle he crosses daily while driving his children to school , and owe their existence, too, to a loyal company of cacti, agaves and succulents that silently, radiantly surround his studio terrace.

These creatures join the wider Ramakech gallery of Hybridus, alongside Maxitos of the Giant’s House and Nanitos and Minitos of the vegetable garden. Each figure carries its own story, born of the artist’s personal memories.
