Jean-François Fourtou, Sculptor and Artist of Ramakech
Jean-François Fourtou is an artist born in 1964 in Paris, where he studied at the Beaux-Arts. He went on to live in Madrid, then New York. In 1999, he finally settled in Marrakech, where he set up his studio.
On this very site, he has staged, over time, a body of iconic works. Today, this art park in Marrakech brings together his work from more than twenty years on site. Opened to the public in 2024, Ramakech is the direct result of these monumental installations.
His early childhood remains his greatest source of inspiration. With poetry, he explores his memories and dreams, travelling back in time to project his visitors into the imaginary worlds of childhood , through disorienting architecture and unsettling shifts of scale. Through the immersive experience it offers, Ramakech is a reminder of the quiet superpowers of wonder.
An Internationally Recognised Career
Before settling in Marrakech, Jean-François Fourtou exhibited his work around the world, working with numerous galleries and institutions. His work is rooted in a reflection on childhood and memory, and has won over collectors and institutions internationally. Today, he is one of the singular figures of contemporary French art.
